Reno- Earlier tonight, the members of the Republican Assembly Caucus elected new leadership for the 2010 election cycle. Assemblyman Pete Goicoechea was elected Leader in a unanimous vote.
The election was held in response to Assemblywoman Heidi Gansert’s announcement earlier this year that she will not be running for reelection. She leaves the Republican Assembly Caucus in a strong position, with a solid roster of candidates and a disciplined focus on victory in the fall elections.
“It has been an honor for me to serve as the leader of the Republican Assembly Caucus,” said Gansert, “but now it’s time for new leadership to carry the work forward. Pete will be an outstanding leader, and I know that he will push the party to victory this November.” Said Goicoechea, “I look forward to working with fellow caucus members to elect additional Republicans to the legislature, and I am excited to present the GOP case to voters. We’ve got a lot of work ahead of us these next few months and we are determined to get it done.”
